Award Winning Wines

  • 2006 Galatina Negramaro DOC - Sold Out
  • "Ripe fruit tones and layers of spice (clove, cinnamon and black pepper) fold seamlessly together as one. The wine represents a hardy blend of Negroamaro and Montepulciano and offers the solid structure and firmness that you should expect from these two masculine indigenous grapes."
  • ~ Wine Enthusiast, March 2009
  • 2003 Piromafo IGT Salento - Sold Out
  • "Thick oaky tones of spice, vanilla and toast emerge from the nose of this well-made Negroamaro and underscore the wine’s fruity essence. The wine has a slightly aged quality thanks to its polished tannins."
  • ~ Wine Enthusiast, November 2008
  • HOT PICKS! "This Pugliese winery uses an owl as its logo, with a nod to the region of Galatina and the Greek goddess Athena. The Piromafo, a 100% Negramaro lavishly aged in large, neutral oak barrels, is its star, medium-bodied and lightly spicy, with a fine minerality to the finish. As with all of Valle dell'Asso's wines, it is culled from organically grown, dry-farmed vineyards. The 2005 is not yet available; until it is, scoop up the nearly-as-good 2003.

  • "This is a peculiar style of wine that to me is an acquired taste. Those who've made the leap love the earthiness and dark-fruited aromas. The Piromafo also shows hints of dried herbs and licorice, and overall good balance for a wine from the hot 2003 vintage."
