 Spring Vale Vineyards
We first became aware of Spring Vale by drinking a bottle of their Gewurztraminer in a resteaurant in Melbourne. We were blown away by it and immediately set about contacting them. Two years later, we have their wine in our portfolio, and are often faced with a quizzical look that asks, "Why Tasmania?"
Tasmania has the coolest climate of all of Australia, and is producing marvelous wines that have some of the qualities we most treasure: acidity and food-friendliness, cool-climate aromatics, and terroir-specific character. Spring Vale's philosophy matches with ours quite well. They state on their website:
*We believe that life is good, and high quality wines help keep it that way! We aim to let the fruit from our unique site fully express itself. Tasmania is a cool climate, so the grapes require rather a long time to ripen. We taste the berries for ripeness and use sugar content as a secondary ripeness indicator.*
*In short, we believe that the quality of wine is determined by the quality of the grapes, and that our grapes deserve to reach their maximum ripeness to produce the best wines possible. We aim to devote as much time as is necessary to the wines to ensure they are the best they can be.*
